The Bakersfield Memorial Hospital Foundation plays an integral part in connecting our community with our healthcare services.
Tower project construction progresses
Bakersfield Memorial Hospital's new patient tower is on schedule to be completed in early 2009. Workers are currently busy framing walls, preparing to install heating and air conditioning systems and installing the windows in the four additional floors being built on top of the existing labor and delivery area.
The new tower will include 114 beds consisting of 24 new intensive care beds, 30 beds in a new Family Care Unit and 60 additional fully monitored beds for general use after surgery or other medical reasons. Upon completion of this project, BMH will have 421 licensed acute-care beds, addtional parking, and a drop-off/pick-up area to ease the flow for patients and guests.
New “Quiet Garden” welcomes employees and guests
Bakersfield Memorial Hospital employees and auxilians can now see recognition of their contributions of more than $240,000 to The Campaign for Memorial Hospital. The garden provides a place for employees and guests to rest and reflect in a serene environment.
Ground was broken on November 1, 2007 in the landscaped area outside the hospital's Courtyard Cafe. The first phase of the project consisted of the construction of a naturalistic water feature. A rock waterfall terminating in a concealed reservoir is flanked by glass brick side panels. Phase Two of the project entailed the installation of hundreds of donors' engraved bricks in the foreground of the water feature. Vibrant, colorful flowers have replaced the original shrubbery throughout the area. Tiled sidewalks have been resurfaced and expanded. New benches have been installed around the brick paved area. A public dedication ceremony of the Quiet Garden was held in February.
